Squam Lake, famously known as the filming location for the 1981 movie On Golden Pond, is a pristine, 6,791-acre body of water in New Hampshire's Lakes Region. Originally named Keeseenunknipee ("goose lake in the highlands"), it is the second-largest lake located entirely within New Hampshire. Known for its crystal-clear water, it offers serene, scenic beauty, featuring over 30 named islands and a protected habitat for loons and bald eagles.

"On Golden Pond" FameThe 1981 Oscar-winning film was shot here, cementing its reputation as a peaceful, idyllic getaway.

Name EvolutionThe lake has had multiple names over the centuries, including Keeseenunknipee (1779) and Asquam (early 1800s), which means "water".
